To answer his question a barrage of bass music has poured out from the underground; and today I bring you a track that’s definitive of the kind of innovation that can be heard among the rumblings from from below. 

Yep, that’s fucking right! The hard-bass master Skifcha has dropped “Rylan Dios” a nonstop head-banging monster crashing its way through house parties of the grimey-ist nature. Like a fucking mountain coming to get you, this track is a huge step forward for the young producer. 

For while Skifcha is mostly known for his dubstep I’ve always secretly hoped he would expand into his own unique sound, and I think that this track is true proof that crafting one’s own style out of party music is a great accomplishment. The transition from a specific genre into something particularly unique is a hard one that many producers (mainstream or otherwise) fail to accomplish time and time again, so I say bravo... And plus we all get to go fuckin in now.

Young Lavi$h x J-Louis - 10pm In Cali

So guys, 420’s right around the corner; and every true stoner is taking off work, laying the seeds that they “might be getting sick” and saving all their resources for a day filled with red-eyed cyphes and of course head-bouncing bass music.

So let’s talk about the first part for a second; when it comes to bud I usually like smoking blunts, my time in Cali hitting never-ending swishers really made me appreciate a real blunt wrap once I got back home (FTS fact: if you don’t like White Owl’s…….go fuck yourself…. :D ..) so if at some point you switch over to this blog on April 20^th to show your friends some chill track or another, just take a moment and know in your heart that the creator of this blog is probably rolling up at that exact moment.

But now, on to the second part, because what song are you gonna play for your stoned delinquent friends once you get to the blog?? Well never fear, because I have the perfect track to smoke to! It’s a new collab with chill producer J-Louis and S.I. rapper Young Lavi$h; an artist heavily integrated in the Northshore Sound; heavy bass lines, a slow and purposeful flow, and deep connections with some staples in the scene (has done work with everyone from The Charity to JTTG). Recently he’s been living in California putting out outstanding material, and this track is no exception.

But to get down to it Young Lavi$h is, like a lot of the northshore scene, post-trap music; a lot of wild drugs, a lot of less-than-respectable woman doing less-than-respectable things, and a lot of Do-It-Yourself attitude; all surrounded by cleanly executed trill-waves wafting through your speakers.

Which is why we love this scene, and which is why I love this track.

The Shaolin Temple - They Say

On the island some call them “The Temple”, others simply T.S.T. but regardless of what you call them the temple boys are finally here with the first leaked track of the (looking-to-be) monstrous Volume 1; and all the trip-hop addicts are going nuts about it.

But if you haven’t heard; S.I.’s new producer on the block (is that even a phrase?) JTTG has teamed up with The SHRNK straight out of Brooklyn to bring the Island some new kind of audio-formed sickness. 

Like some lost track from an early Gorillaz album “They Say” creeps up at you with precision and intensity; a slow motion serenade for rolling up out your den late at night; blunt smoke drifting all about your head. The rebounding 808 hits throughout the drop we’re really what sealed the deal for me, head-pounding without over doing it, a very hard thing to balance. So with that said it must have been a producer with some skill to be able to pull off a track like this.

But in reality not much is yet known about these guys; and only time will tell as they unroll yet more of their massive debut to the underground masses, but perhaps it’s good some things stay hidden for now, and remain as they should be; secrets of the temple o.O

DJ Grizzly - FTS Interview / April Mix

Lemme tell you, as a kid whose been raving for a couple years; good DJ's are fucking hard to come by.
That being said good DJ's are the lifeblood of a scene; they are the direct channel between the music and the listener. Without them we'd all be dancing to the fucking radio... and right next to the DJ is the promoter; without that dude we'd all be shuffling around our bedrooms on friday night instead of in a warehouse stuffed with smoke machines and light shows, you know meeting people... hearing new music... experiencing new things; and as this scene grows the major players are beginning to emerge to start shit up, and personally I'm psyched.

So lucky for us we were able to snag an interview with the newly-formed Staten Island Parties' DJ Grizzly; (Add Him Now Bitch) a veteran of the NYC scene whose lately turned a lot of his attention to his home borough...

FTS: Most “how I got into raving” stories are pretty nuts and I'm guessing yours especially has been pretty crazy, mind telling us it, and how you first started to DJ?

Grizzly: How I got into DJing is I always loved music, I go crazy for it; anyone whose seen me spin before will know what I mean. It moves me in a way I can’t explain. When the drop hits my adrenaline rush just lets loose. Of course I've always love parties, everything about it; the lights, sound, video, the party favors and all the other equipment used. I had a chance to hang behind the booth for an event. It was a crowd of 150 people. I saw how the DJ at the time was transitioning from song to song smoothly and moving the crowd to the beat. It was incredible to see that along with songs I had on my iPod at that time that my friends had never heard of and they liked the tracks so I wanted to share my passion of music to others. I saw DJing as my way to mix songs/genres that I love and share it with people who enjoy it and make them move like it does for me. There are always new songs and genres that I fall in love with and would wanna share them with others. I work hard every day to express myself in the best way and share the music I love and have a passion for. Along the way I met great friends and amazing DJ's like Jess Irizarri, Dmitry Mozenkov, Fred Nigma and David Lyons who brought me into the rave scene that I’m now hooked too and love. Also James Jannetti and many others. You know who you are who have helped me improve as a DJ with mixing different styles and always been there on my good and bad days.

FTS: There’s a lot of varying genre’s springing up in the scene; but if there was just one underground genre of music you could introduce in your sets, which one would it be?

Grizzly: An underground genre that I would love to see come out is Psy-Trance; shown by one of my DJ friends Fred Nigma (Add Him). I see it as a genre that’s not really big in the America, but huge in Europe; the beat to it is just amazing.

FTS: What’s a classic song you would love to see get a real quality deep acid remix?

Grizzly: Hmm… I would wanna see Mozart or Beethoven music mixed with Deep Acid that would be crazy.

FTS: The NYC rave scene is pretty well established, what sort of elements do you envision for the burgeoning Staten scene in contrast to NYC as whole?

Grizzly: The NYC rave scene is huge but the only thing missing on the island for ravers is that there weren’t any raves that I heard of actually on SI; mostly because there aren’t a lot of locations that are suitable for a raves. It sucks, but me and my team called Staten Island Parties (https://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Staten-Island-Parties/124794631041183) are looking for great locations to host big parties so Staten EDM heads won’t have far to go. FTS: What venue are you most looking forward to throwing a crazy-ass, balls-to-the-wall, non-stop-light-show rave at?

Grizzly: A Venue that I’m looking forward to throwing a party at is definitely Club Amazura it’s this huge place with 3 floors that can fit up to 1000 people (possibly more) and great raves have been there like Holiday Madness.

David Cordero - Something

SICK BEAT ALERT (I don’t know if that’s gonna be a thing on this blog, but at least you now know that this post is a beat, and that it is sick, and that you are being alerted to it!) So I was rifling through some of David’s old beats and I found this gem of a track, it’s from back in his old-school hip-hop phase (his recent shit’s a lot heavier, in terms of experimentation and performance) but I couldn’t be digging this more.

The piano that’s laid down is beautiful, a light sick melody that continues to grind throughout the main section; while the multi-layered horn section in the back gives this instrumental an immediate presence and puts it down in a pounding form. It’s Arena Hip-hop at its best; taking you to the back of some packed football field littered with beer cans and clogged with smoke; as you wave your zippo diligently in the air for grungy bass heads all over the world.

Rappers get ready; your next epic freestyle is on its way.

Lukevoice - Don't Tell 'Em

There’s a lot about this borough that’s common knowledge, there are a lot of things that most people get even though it’s not broadcast anywhere; for instance, the fact that after midnight every drunk girl in the city needs a ride home to the island, cause no one wants to ride the Alice Austin… or that real skaters never shop at Zumiez… or that Method Man occasionally shows up at the mall for no apparent reason.

And personally I believe that this borough’s electronic scene is another well-known secret on the rise; so that’s why Ray and I started this blog, as a way to give a little broadcasting to the dark rumbles coming out of the underground for those of us who perhaps haven’t yet decided to get their feet wet.

So to kick off this blog’s posts in April I bring you the anthem of the month; (and let that be a challenge to all you other producers) a cacophony of late-night synths and syrupy vocal layers that seem to drip out of your headphones. It’s a song about growing within your sound, which is something this scene needs more of, if you ask me…
